Woodpeckers

We moved to St Margaret's at Cliffe six years ago. I'd retired and we wanted to live away from the ever more crowded London suburbia. As a keen bird watcher this area had long been a favourite, so when a suitable house came on the market we jumped at the opportunity. One surprise has been the frequency of Woodpeckers visiting us. It is hard to be in the garden for long without hearing the loud ringing call of the Yaffle, Green Woodpecker and everyday we are visited by several Great Spotted Woodpeckers, eager to feed on their favourite peanuts and giving their loud, sharp "kick" call from high in the trees. Both species have bucked the trend of many of our birds and have done well in the last twenty years.
