We seldom get large waves rolling into the bay, the channel is shallow and when it is rough it is normally a very busy sea with lots of "white horses". Yesterday was different. We had some pretty large waves hitting the wall at high tide, although there were few white tops around. Looking out to sea it was possible to see the waves breaking over the Goodwin sands, a reminder of the number of ships that have been lost out there. Standing by the wall as the tide retreated I was entranced by the incredible noise that the sea made on the shingle as it sucked back. Beats holding a shell up to your ear!
