Collared Dove

The Collared Dove is a familiar site in gardens and around the farm. It is amazing to realise the the Collared Dove wasn't recorded in Great Britain until 1952, in Lincolnshire, and first bred in 1955. The first breeding record in Kent was at Sandwich in 1957. Up until the 1930's this mainly Asian species spread no further west than the Balkans. They are now so successful that they have reached the east coast of North America.
