Now that the flowers of the Rape fields have mainly gone, as the pods develop, it was good to see the somewhat more natural yellow of the Meadow Buttercup, Ranunculus acris, dominating this field. There's something summery about this picture and it is a song that nearly everyone remembers from 1968, by the Foundations.
This is a Small Elephant Hawk-Moth ( Deilephila porcellus ), it is the smallest of our Hawk-moths with a wing span of only about 2 inches (5cm). It was the best moth I caught last night, a bit subjective, but I like them.

Super moth. On buttercups: they don't seem to be doing so well compared with last year - a bit patchy overall.. My local wild flower meadow is not nearly so interesting. Last year was excellent.
