Powerful Owl with prey

Just back this morning, from six weeks in Australia. I will put some pictures on my Flickr account but as a small gruesome taster here is a Powerful Owl, with its prey, a Ring-tailed Possum. It first be-headed it, and then sat for a long period, perhaps to let the meat "ripen" in the heat, before feeding its two youngsters.

This is one of the "cuddly" babes.

The Powerful Owl is somewhat strage looking for an owl, at some angles it looks very hawk like.

Keep your pets inside, with these about! The second one seems to be boring right into your soul.

Hope it's not too chilly for you.

Hi Tony. Chris got attacked by one of these owls yesterday - ended up with a gash to the side of the head worryingly close to his eye! Cheers, Murray

'The Powerful Owl' sounds like a storybook character.

That bird possibly waits for the prey's blood to coagulate so that there are no blood spots to guide predators to its nest site.

I look forward to more nature pics now, albeit of the Brit variety.
