Censorship

On reflection, if anyone wants to post anonymously, fine, it not my preference but so be it.

I have been accused of censorship by an anonymous commenter on this blog. What I actually did was to remove two comments because, despite requesting it twice, the person didn't put a name to the comments. I don't mind people disagreeing with me, anyone is entitled to be wrong, but to request the simply courtesy of signing a name seems reasonable to me. Just a name and where you are from would be quite sufficient, I'm willing to say who I am, if you disagree with a point I've made about global warming or dropping rubbish, that fine. By the way, disliking our roads covered in rubbish isn't whinging, especially as I actually carry bags with me so that if I get the time I can clear up other peoples mess.

I would like all comments to carry a name, and I will continue to remove those that are both anonymous and by their nature expect a debate or reply.

there's no fool like an old fool, and you demnostrate this over and over again. Blogger has the anonymous feature and it is there to be used. Debate topics, don't censor them.

I agree Tony, removing posts you don't agree with is against the very principals of the blogosphere.

Thank you for your commnets. As I understant it if you don't have an account with google/blogger the post comes up as anonymous. I dont mind this if that person puts a name to it.

Erasing posts because you don't agree with them, or because a person does not put a name is very pedantic. It does not matter if a person puts a name, since you cannot validate that either, can you Tony? So it's exactly the same as choosing anonymous!

I have seen lots of posts erased on other threads, which is a shame because if it is the same person as I think Tony is talking about, he/she made some very valid comments.

Thanks Susan. I accept your point. I have never erased any other posts, accept those where I've made a spelling mistake (not unusual) and then I've replaced it and possibly a direct piece of spam, although that may have been on one one of my flicker photos. So that you don't feel deprived I've put copies of Mr Anonymous's posts back where he posted them. As I said it has nothing to do with whether I agreed or not. I'd just asked for a name. At least then you can distinguish between different Anonymous Posters (well probably). It makes me happier, but rather than be a pedant there back for you to read.

Thanks Tony, you've restored my faith in your blog, and what an excellent blog it is too - please take more photos around the villages - it is the spectrum of topics that makes your blog so interesting. Your moans are funny too (btw you labelled it MOAN, not me :)

Hi, nice to here from you. Now which anonymous are you? or is it all of them? I didn't label the post where I was a "moaning old git" a moan. It wasn't and I didn't mean it to be. I did label the one about rubbish a moan, and I guess I was moaning. but I wasn't whinging, a quite different thing.
Sorry I'm not getting round the village at the moment, hopefully I'll be off my sticks soon. I haven't yet got enough confidence to walk outside with out them, and it will be a few weeks before I'm allowed to drive. Until then I'll try and do my best, but I don't seem to be doing too well.
Thank you for coming back Mr ????

If i told you that I wouldn't be anonymous, would I? Btw, will you be creating a WHINGE label anytime soon? Only kidding Tony... ;)
