The cold north-westerly winds seemed to have put a hold on all thoughts of migrants arriving. The patch was virtually birdless to day, although I did see two very distant divers, probably Red-throats and a Common Guillemot during a short seas watch.

In the garden there seems to be an increase in the number of finches feeding, although the
Brambling has failed to reappear.

Goldfinches seem particularly numerous at the moment. Their cheerful singing brought a bit of cheer to the garden in between some very heavy showers.

There also seems to have been an increase in activity from the pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers.

This male climbed the tree in front of my study when it had finished feeding on the peanuts. I have no idea where they nest. they've never shown any inclination to drill any of our trees.

Its the same every year Tony, end of march comes, and the Northerly wind blows - how frustrating!!
Yes, but at least you've had a Wheatear on your patch this year!
