Blowing in the wind

At about 7.30 a.m. yesterday I looked out of our bedroom window and was amazed to see the sky full of hot air balloons.

There were about 30 or 40 hot air balloons in view, and more were appearing as others disappeared towards the sea.

Turning the news on I soon found out what it was all about. A total of 51 balloonists had taken off from Lydden race circuit in for the estimated four-hour flight to France at about 7am.

It was a World Record bid for the largest group of hot air balloons to make the Channel crossing, and participants had come from across Europe, including Italy and Germany.

One of the participants said ''We got notification late yesterday that the weather conditions were ideal and so we decided to make a go of it."
