When Gold turns to Green

The main influx of Goldfinches left nearly a week ago and it wasn't until Saturday that we started seeing a few return to the garden. In fact I don't think that these are returning birds, but a second, and so far much smaller influx.

For the last couple of days there has been an increase in the number of Greenfinches in the garden. Not a huge number, but up to about 15 to 20.

After the problems with trichomonosis, a disease which severely affected the population of Greenfinches, and to a lesser extent Chaffinches it is good to see even a small influx in the garden.

Chaffinches are also increasing this week so a feeder with the three species on it is good to see. The overall numbers are still small by comparison to last week, when most of the 8 sunflower feeders were empty at the end of each day, compared to lasting at least six days so far in the last week.

Good to see some Goldfinches returning to their duties of cleaning up the seeds on the patio, I was beginning to worry that I would have to get the broom out.

Tony only a few gold and greens here, but I put that down to the Sparrowhawk that hides in the leylandi tree at the back of my garden, for hours on end!
