In the Pine Gardens a new building has appeared. The Pines Calyx is a conference and training centre, built in an ecologically sustainable way, it is said to be one of Europe's "most sustainable and healthy" structures.
It was built for £800,000 with chalk extracted from the site and literally rammed into place to create the walls.
Other sustainable materials were also used, meaning it needs about 15% of a normal building's energy requirements.
Pines Calyx was opened on Tuesday 17th October by Sir Crispin Tickell, from the South East Climate Change Partnership, who described it as "an example of what you can do" towards reducing global warming.
