Signs of the Times

What's all this about? Many of the roads around the village have these signs displayed, but I've seen no evidence of re-surfacing, so are they just a warning to slow down because the condition of our roads is so bad?

This sign near East Langdon indicated just how much rain has come down in the last few days.

We should all be thankful that we're not in a position, like some poor soul I heard on the radio this morning, of having our house flooded for the fourth time in 16 months. I passed this minor road flood on the way round to see if I could locate the Buzzard I watched last week.

I found it in the same area, and like many other birds it makes use of the wet conditions to find earth worms. They mostly eat carrion and rabbits but my guess is that at this time of year, in current conditions invertebrates will be a significant part of their diet.

In the evening light I watched a Carrion Crow mobbing the Buzzard as it flew from the field to a small wood.

Other Bird news: there were far fewer Guillemots to be seen in the bay, and just a smattering of birds passing. At least 41 Great Crested Grebes were in small groups not far off shore but I couldn't find either of the less common Grebes reported in the last couple of weeks.

Where does the buzzard hang out Tony? I saw two over the St Margarets/Martin Mill crossroads in the autumn, but have seen no sign since.
