Micro or Macro

Two of the moths I caught last night were a Common Pug above and a Pyralid called Dioryctria abietella. The Pug is in the family Geometridae that are classified as "macro" moths, while pyralidae are part of the large group known as micros.

In this case the micro is slightly larger then the macro, and there are in fact many case where this is true. Rather like the distinction between Butterflies and Moths the division into macros and micros is an arbitrary one, based on families and not size.
