While I was out and about yesterday I got a text from jack to say he'd found two Yellow-browed Warblers. Talking to him today it sounds like the conditions were perfect and they were close enough for pictures. Today was different, the wind was strong and from the east this morning. There were a few Chiffchaffs around but no sight or sound of the Yellow-browed Warblers. The only notable flock were four groups of around twenty five Goldfinches on the move.
There weren't too many moths either, but this Red-line Quaker was a first for the year, The only month I've caught them in is October but this is the earliest by four days.
This afternoon Phil phoned to say he'd seen a Monarch Butterfly at Bockhill flying over towards the gun club. I failed to find it along Kingsdown Road in the increasingly unpleasant weather. Remarkably this was the third record at Bockhill since October 14th 1995.

That's a nice Red-line Quaker...i've never seen one that ligh before and it really does show up the red highlights well.
