This is a small village near Dover in Kent. My intention is to show some of the Village, its history and the wildlife I find there.

Unwrap your fat-balls
Being reduced to Shanks's Pony and also feeling a bit lethargic I didn't venture far today.
I did notice that the Starling flock around the garden was building up, and like other birds they are quite partial to a bit of fat ball. These are often sold wrapped in plastic mesh. If you have them in feeders in the garden, please remove the mesh before putting them in the feeders. Some small birds, like Blue Tits, can and sometimes do get their feet entangled in the mesh, so although it seems convenient it to leave them as bought please take a couple of minutes to make them safe first.

Unfortunately Tony, as much as Starling need food and are attractive birds, they are so greedy and in such numbers. Fatballs that should sustain Blue Tits and the like for weeks, are gone in a day or so once Starlings find them.
Derek, I would agree that a lot of Starlings will quickly demolish fat balls, and understand that this might be aggravating, but Starling are not greedy, they don't eat more than they need. Greed is more or less a human characteristic, unfortunately demonstrated to absolute excess by the bankers and financiers of our time!
A bit of an over the top reply - perhaps its just the speed that they gulp the stuff down that makes them act like bankers putting money in their pockets.
