Wild Geese

While we were in Lancashire over the Christmas holiday we took the opportunity to visit Martin Mere, one of the WWT's best reserves. The reserve is best known in winter for the large number Whooper Swans, around 1500 so far this winter. One of the delights there are the large number of Pink-footed Geese that also winter on and around the reserve. Even if you are not a birder the sight and sound of flocks of wild geese flying over is a magic experience. Unfortunately there are no sounds below, but these flight shots in the evening sun light give some impression of the beauty of flying geese.

Happy New Year to you Tony, I didn't realise there were so many Whoopers there. Nice pics.

Hi Alan, thanks, A Happy New Year to you. Martin Mere is a really great place, especially for the sounds. I'll do a quick post later about the swans, and their rings.
