Arrival of the Blackbirds.

  1. Over the last few days I've noticed that there's been an increase in the number of Blackbirds around the garden. I don't know if this is an influx from the continent, but it hasn't been accompanied by any arrival of other thrushes.

The majority seem to be males and there were at least ten Blackbirds around the garden this morning, and several of them were gleaning dropped seeds and bits under the feeders. This inevitably led to a lot of chasing and posturing. While the weather may be unfriendly to us, while it is mild there seems to be less tolerance to close feeding among Blackbirds than during very cold weather.
