Are there any moths around?

With December looming it is surprising to find that there are still some moths around. One of my favourites at this time of year is the appropriately named December Moth. I think the thick hairy ruff round the head must have some protective value from the cold weather.

From front on they look like a Bull waiting to charge, and the antennae are magnificent.

Other Wildlife I noticed quite a few Fieldfares in one of the hedgerows near West Langdon, perhaps this is a sign of bad weather to come. In the garden I found a hibernating Common Newt when I moved a paving stone, I replaced under another stone and hope that the disturbance hasn't done it any harm.

I love the way the leaf he's standing on looks like shiny green crazy paving.
